The Rigi was the very first Swiss peak I ever “visited.” It feels funny to call it a hike, because back in 2017 I took the train to the top from Arth-Goldau. In my defence, I’ve more than made up for it since then. I’ve walked it, ridden my bike there, and yes, sometimes I still take the train.
There’s something special about Rigi. It’s known as the “Queen of the Mountains,” and for me it’s also the mountain I see every day from my kitchen window. Over time I found my favourite way to photograph it. Late winter, during golden hour, when the light turns soft and the landscape feels quiet and suspended. Some mornings count too, but only the rare ones.
All the photographs in this collage were taken from a viewpoint near Mettmenstetten, just about 20 minutes from my door. This piece brings together three evenings and one morning from 2023 and 2024. A small detail I love is that the sunrise and the sunset images were made on the very same day: 18 February 2023.
